The making of a war bonnet was a special event. The man who was to receive the bonnet called to gether the chief men of his tribe and invited them to a feast, after the feathers and material for the bonnet had been gathered.For a man to be entitled to wear a war bonnet he had to accumulate honors;then he had to secure the necessary eagle feather's. Only the plains tribes wore the large eagle feather  headdresses in early times.
