High Relief Wood Carving:
I really like the way that it turned out for the most part, I had a section of the wood that everytime I would carve it would take chunks out..and there is always more I couldve done but over all I liked it
this was a really difficult subject because its inorganic. And the 3/4 view and canted angle create a strong sense of movement and drama. Very good! Try to take a photo that has less glare.
critique: I like your image, to me it reminds me how I sometimes stare up at the clouds waiting for the light to change. You've taken an everyday object and turned it into art. Although, I can't tell if your clouds and stop light are at different depths, it could just be from the way you photographed your image. Overall, Great Job!
I agree about the clouds. I'm not sure how this could be resolved other than making them much deeper (like maybe an inch lower), but your block is only 1.5" inches thick. I read them as clouds, but wonder what someone would think that didn't see the source photo...
I see them as clouds because the curves are so "curvy." There isn't a definite line around them, but I do agree that they could be a little lower. I do love this though!
I completely agree with what has been stated so far and I understand that it must have been hard to get the right depth when chunks keep flying out lol. The image feels very "in the moment". I do, however, wonder what the image would look like if the bottom half of the light had the same definition as the top because it seems a bit flat in comparison. But, once again, it could just be the effect of the flash on the camera.
I really like the placement of it. I always thought of them as clouds. You took moments we all have, sitting at a boring light and turned it into something cool and unique. I like the more 3d effect at the top but I could see pulling out the top light a little more to counter the deep cloud behind it. But I really love it, good job.
I do like this piece. It came along so nicely. I did not see the source photo, and I had wondered what the curves were. However, I always liked them and thought they looked amazingly awesome, so I didn't think to find out. Knowing that they are clouds helps, but either way it is a very well-done, lovely piece.

ReplyDeletethanks...Ill have to take some better pics. I wanted the clouds deeper but i wouldve had to take more of the background out and ran out of time lol

ReplyDeleteI love how you were able to create that sense of depth in the lights. I think you did a good job.
