Claus Oldenburg

Claus Oldenburg, born in 1929, isbest known for his large sculptures and soft sculptures day things. In 1936 with his family Oldenburg moved to Chicago where he attended the Latin School of Chicago. He continued his education at Yale University (1946-1950) and then moved back to Chicago to attend the School of the Art Institute Chicago.In 1953 Oldenburg opened his own studio and became a U.S. citizen. His first sales of his work was 5 pieces that he sold for a total of $25.oo.
After living in New York for four years Oldenburg became a part of the Pop Art movement in the 1960's. His large works received a lot of ridicule before they were appreciated. He married Coosje Van Bruggen and together they created over forty sculptures located around the world.
