Laurel Roth

Laurel Roth work has been created to show how she examined biological ramifications of human behavior. Her work is created with nontraditional materials. The use of these types of materials is to show mankind’s drive to modify itself also its environment.

Her peacocks are made to represent the choices we human make to make ourselves unique. That is why she created the peacocks using of fake fingernails, barrettes, nail polish, false eyelashes and jewelry.

The Man’s Best Friend series is pet skulls that are created out of hand carved solid polysulfone or acrylic block. This series is to demonstrate man’s hand in the design and creation of the modification of the animal’s breeds and that these breeds can no longer survive without man.

Biodiversity Reclamation Suits for Urban Pigeons is a series that demonstrate the women’s uses of fiber-craft to provide safety and comfort.

Pharmacopiea is a series that depicts our society that uses drugs to treat illness to even alter the state of mind. The pills that have wings of butterflies represent armies of devils and angel pills that are fighting over your soul.

As you gaze at these images of some of her works of art I would like for you to think about what you gain from these sculptures and do you get this message that she is trying to stated or to perceive it as something else altogether. For I understand the message that she has stated in her peacocks and in pharmacopie, but in her other series I never achieved the direct message that I was obviously was supposed to gain.
