Louise Nevelson

Loiuse Nevelson is an American sculptor known for her monumental, monochromatic, wooden wall pieces, and outdoor sculptures. Born in Russia, migrated with her family to the United States. In the 1930s she was attending art classes at the Art Students League of New York. During 1941 she had her first solo exhibition. Louise Nevelson experimented with early conceptual art using found objects and dabbed in painting and printing before finding her way with sculpture. Her sculptures usually appear puzzle like, often 3-D, created out of wood. Louise Nevelson is one of the most important figures in the twentieth century American Sculpture.
